Big boy in his "mew" bed

Sometime last year I picked up a twin bed frame at a yard sale. Nothing fancy, just white wood, but was perfect for a boy. I think I paid $10 for it. Last weekend I painted it dark brown and this weekend Jake cut the slats and set it up. Tonight was Gus' first night in his new ("mew" as he calls it) bed.

I ran to the grocery store while Jake bathed him and read books with him. Jake tucked him in and I laid with him in his new bed. By 9:20pm this is what we saw.............

I will write tomorrow to let you know how he fared the first night in his new bed! I am hoping to get a few hours of sleep before we have company in our bed!

Today Gus made 33 months! I can't believe he has been sleeping with us for the past 33 months! I would not change a thing! Jake and I both love to reach over and put our hand on his chest or back to make sure he is breathing and the baby morning breath is just adorable. I know, I know in a few short years I won't be saying that (about the morning breath) but until then I will keep trying to smell it every chance I get!! Sweet, sweet Gusley Mommy and Daddy love you so much and are so proud of you for WANTING to sleep in your big boy bed. There was no forcing you or fighting with you. You wanted to do this all on your own! Way to go big boy!!

Potty Progress!!!!

I am proud to say that we have turned the corner and are on our way to being diaper free! Fingers crossed! There is no pressure for Gus to use the potty, but if he tells us "pee" or "poo poo" we bring him to the toilet. He was only pee peeing on the potty, but last night he did both!!!! He was in the bathroom with me while I was washing my hair (hanging over the side of the tub) and he was telling me "poo poo poo" so with a head full of shampoo, dripping water and suds all over, I took off his pants and diaper and put him on the potty and he did just what he was telling me he had to do!!!!!! It made the clean up of the water and suds SO WORTH IT!!!

I am proud to say that he did the same thing this morning and it was a total success (#1 and #2)! He wore cloth training underwear all day today and did have 2 accidents, but that is to be expected and they are rather funny. He just stands there frozen saying "uh oh"! Overall today he managed to poop in the potty once and pee pee in the potty at least 6-7 times! GO GUSLEY!!! Mommy and Daddy are so very proud of you and your eagerness to learn and do new things.

Since this is a blog to keep family updated, but also to log milestones, I would like to make note that he brought this phase of potty training upon himself. We have been reading potty books and letting him flush the toilet and wash his hands and he is the one that initiated him sitting on the big potty! What a big boy! This should make our trips in the very near future very interesting! I think I will be putting a large glass jar in the car in the event of an emergency pee pee!!

I am sorry if I overload with potty updates, but this is how I log Gusley's milestones so bear with me! And for those of you that are wondering, but don't want to pry, eventually we MAY want another child, but the following must be met before we can even think about that. (1) Gusley is potty trained; (2) Gusley sleeps in his own bed (we still co-sleep and honestly, I don't think we would have it any other way!); and (3) Gusley is completely weened from nursing (he is still a night nurser). Again this is for my own records (so that I can remember what to do IF that second one should ever come along!) Toodles!!

Year of the Monkey? Nope, Metal Tiger!

Gusley has been doing lots of new 'tricks' if you will. That is why I chose to title this post what I did. For Christmas he got 3 pairs of pajama's with monkeys on them and 3 new monkey shirts/outfits. Today he was in one of his monkey pj's most of the day (since it is so cold out we've been having lots of pajama parties). We were upstairs picking up cloths and changing the sheets when all of a sudden I hear him calling for me to go into his room. He was simply yelling, nothing that I could make out, but I quickly ran to his room to find him on laying on his changing table with a diaper and the wipes pointing to his diaper awaiting to be changed! I do believe we will begin taking potty training more serious now that he can tell us when he is wet/needs to be changed. In order for him to get on his changing table he would have had to do some monkey maneuvers, which he had been spotted doing lately!! Let the games begin!

A little side tid bit of info, as I was doing my research to find out what animal represented the Chinese Calendar I found that Chinese New Year this year takes place on Gus' birthday! I have always found this to be an interesting celebration and how fitting it is on my son's birthday!

Fun at Gi-Gi and Paw's

December 26, 2008 ~ Still back-blogging! These were just a few cute shots we had of Gus playing at his grandparents house the day after Christmas!

Where he is sitting there is a little "lip" where the floors meet and he was learning to crawl up and down the lip. We are so proud of him and how observant he is!

Gus and his cousin Canon, hanging out in the rocking chair!

He loves "Hoots" his owl....he is using it for balance to show off his walking skills!

Smiling, happy baby!!

He found a new use for Gi-Gi and Paw's chair...he turned it on its side and pushed it all over the kitchen area!

Look Whose WALKING!!!!!!!

So here it is...what you have all been waiting for!!! Here is Gusley this evening (12.12.08)walking from me to Jake!!! The noise in the background is a message on the answering machine. Gus knows how to check them remotely and we do not even know how to do it!!! Amazing! Just excuse the background static/noise and watch him walk!!! The video is priceless....Jake's face is awesome, I keep watching it because you can see how proud he is watching Gusley take his first steps!! At the end you will see Gusley so proud of himself! I think the phone helps him balance out....very cute stuff we got going on up here!!

Jake and I are so proud of our sweet little peanut and are so happy that technology has come this far making it this easy for us to share these special moments with our dear friends and family.

He takes TWO STEPS forward.....

As you all know today is our anniversary and Gusley gave us the best present yet!! When Jake got home from work we were playing with him making music and being silly and I was sitting in the chair at the computer, Jake on the ground with Gusley and he said "go see Mama" and Gus turned to me and took TWO STEPS forward and grabbed my leg like he was safe on base. After this initial step of bravery he began to do it again very sporadic, but nonetheless he was taking baby steps. So.....I do think he will be walking at Christmas!!! Lookout Rochelle and Ted your house will never be the same!!!!
