Souvenirs and State Lines

Me, Gus and his souvenir Owl at the, well you can read.......Gus is 7 months old and Kentucky is his 6th state to visit.....he is becoming quite the traveler!

We all got a souvenir...Jake and I each got a shirt and Gus got this owl which he loves! We showed him numerous finger puppets but when we showed him this owl he reached out grabbed it and hugged it tight and we looked at each other and said that is it...he gets the owl. So here he is studying his owl.

Jake and I tried out the self timer on the camera and got a decent picture of us along Kentucky Lake.

Sleeping, Smiling Baby!!

You can see from the smile on his face that he enjoyed his first day of camping. This is the first of many camping trips for you little fellow!!

He was so sweet here, Jake had the camera and he would call his name and he would let out a small smile and of course, each time I would have to kiss that sweet little irresistible mouth of his!!

Gus we love you so much....no words can begin to describe the love daddy and I have for you!!

Kentucky Lake

Taking a break on Kentucky Lake....oh so peaceful.

Kentucky Lake runs parallel to Land Between the Lakes and in Grand Rivers there is this nice pier so we made a pit stop here to see the view and take a few pictures.

Patti's 1880 Restaurant

Here are some more pictures from Patti's the restaurant with the water wheel. I love the sign: Miniature golf.....Weddings, Animals!! You can get married here and enjoy the petting zoo!!

Water wheels and swings!!

Jake really did his research before we headed out on our adventure. He found that right north of the park is a city called Grand Rivers, Kentucky and that there is the really neat restaurant/shops there, so we decided to check it out....totally unique! The water wheel provides water to a stream that runs through the property. Gus was so impressed with the water wheel that we felt bad walking away from it each time!

First time on a swing.....when we were still living in Houma next to Shady Oak park I would go swing every now and then just to feel like a kid again and well because I love to swing....so I thought I would introduce Gus. The first few swings he loved it he lit up, but by the 4th or 5th his expressions changed and he looked a little queasy....this one was from like swing 2 or 3!

These are just a few of the pictures Jake took while driving through the park. It was absolutely beautiful. The trees were starting to change and as you can see some were a pretty shade of red.





These are some rare Austrailian deer that the park is trying to breed and let their population grow. In this pack was a baby with its mother...very sweet!

Elk and Bison Prairie

We drove through the Elk and Bison Prairie....don't panic when you see Gus in the front seat! It was a one way loop with a 15 mph speed limit and since I sit in the backseat with him we thought it would be best if we both sat in the front seat so that we could really take a gander at any animals! The first half of the loop was pretty boring, just a bunch of bison poop, no animals, well some bison in the very distant. Then we rounded a curve and there was the huge elk you will see in our pictures. Gus enjoyed looking at himself in the mirror, but did manage to see the elk in front of us!

Bison

Land Between the Lakes is approximately 40 miles long and 10 miles wide. We drove "The Trace" up to Kentucky on Saturday and on the way there was a field of Bison so we decided to pull off and take a closer look. Here is what we saw.......these animals are pretty darn big!

Good Morning....

Gus woke up in the best mood...ahhh what a night of sleeping in the great outdoors will do for anyone including a 7 month old baby! He was the happiest child each morning just cooing and gooing and looking back and forth at the windows in the cabin....is sure made it easy for us to get up to a happy little fellow!



Breakfast time! He thinks he knows how to feed himself so I give him an empty spoon to let him practice, but I think the spoon went a little to far (hence the red eyes)!! He loved his breakfast outside on the front porch.

Not the best picture of mommy, but I LOVE his face so I figured I'd post it. What the hell, not everyone looks like a beauty queen when the first wake up, especially camping!! He was so excited...his expressive eyebrows crack Jake and I up!

Singing those campfire songs...

Kudos to Jake for building a great campfire both nights! The first two pictures are from the first night and the last two are from the second night. Gus had never seen a fire before so he was really impressed and kept a close eye on it, from a distance of course!
