Oh Happy Week!
I swear I feel like we have been on a roller-coaster between last week and this week.
FRIDAY: Jake called me from work around 3:00pm and said, "pack your bag we are going to our 10 year reunion, see if you parents will watch Gus." In a frenzy I start trying on dresses and throwing cloths and shoes in a bag for me, Gus and Jake. When he gets home we are packed and ready to blast off! We dropped Gus and Buttercup off at my parents and away we went. Both second guessing such a long and quick trip, but we looked at each other and said, "You only live once and you only have one 10 year reunion." Away we went. We left around 7pm after a quick stop at Target, gas and food. We did not tell anyone we were going to make it to the reunion, but we kept taps on what a few of our friends were doing via FB. The all went out on Friday night and we were still driving when they were getting in....very funny drunk posts from a few! We got in around 4am, fell asleep at 5am and were up for 8am.....3 hours of sleep!!
SATURDAY: My father in law cooked a yummy breakfast and we visited with Sarah and Buster and the kids for a while then we headed to town because of all the shoes I brought none of them where quite right. We headed to Danny and Bridgette's because they had a huge bag of hand me downs for Gus!! Thank you, thank you, thank you!!! Then we went to Marshall's. I bought a pair, but I was not sold on them. Off to Ross we go. I knew Ross would not disappoint and I was right! Found exactly what I was looking for! By this time we are both wearing thin and starving. We get Cane's and head to the rents house for a nap before the reunion. Friday was a near and dear friend of mine, Allison's birthday. I was going to wait and surprise her at the reunion, but something was telling me to call her before. I did! We played phone tag, but when we finally spoke we were just screaming and giddy that we were going to see each other! We made plans to meet at her house and ride with she and Robbie. We napped, showered and got dressed and away we went!
THE REUNION: When we got to the reunion it was a total shock for most that we were there because during the week I had told a few people that I did not think we were going to make it, so they were happy to see us! It was so nice to see old familiar faces and catch up with old friends! Everyone seemed to have had a blast. I know we did! Not long after we got there they started doing door prizes and people were telling me that my name was called (I had no idea they were giving the prizes away) and I was like, "for what?" Then I see someone holding up an ice chest...I won an ice chest! After the reunion no one wanted to part ways so most of the crowd went to Dooley's, a little dive bar that has a fabulous jukebox!! At 2am when the bar closed everyone still wasn't ready to leave so we all went to a classmate's parents house and swam until 4am!! What a blast, but we realized that we were certainly not 18 again and can't quite hang like we used too!! Thank you, thank you, thank you to our awesome sister and brother in law for coming get us at 4:30-5am and stopping at Mr. Ronnie's! Sarah and Buster, y'all are wonderful! Thank you so much!! By the time we went to bed it was 6am.
SUNDAY: Up and at it for 11am. My father in law was on his way back home with fried chicken! We showered, ate, visited and were back on the road headed home for 2pm, but had to make one more surprise visit with Maw! She was so happy to see Jake and I, but I know she was a little disappointed that Gus was not with us. Speaking of Gus, Saturday morning when I talked to mom he had woken up and thrown up a few times. She seems to think he had a little bug because after that he was fine...not 100% up to par, but still managing to laugh and play! By the time we left Maw's it was 3pm. We stopped to fuel up on gas and groceries and we hit the dusty trail. We were making great timing and north of Hattisburg, MS we caught some horrific weather and had to get off the interstate and wait it out for about 40 mins. I don't think we put the radio on until we were about 2 hours from home because we were just laughing and reminiscing about the night before! We drove up to the house at 12:15am, unloaded and I went to mom's and got in the bed with Gus. He came and snuggled right up to me. Oh I love that child so much!
RECAP OF THE WEEKEND IN HOURS: 18 hours = total driving time; 9.5 = total hours of sleep we got; 32-34 = total hours we were in Houma; the memories are PRICELESS and so worth every second of the trip!
MONDAY: Can we say dragging a$$ really bad?! However, I enter a picture of Gus into a contest and never heard anything back (there were not that many entries and his was one of the cutest). I had told Jake on the weekend that it was odd that I had not heard anything. Today I got a call to say that our picture won 3rd place and we would be receiving a $100 gift card from Visa!!!! Now that is how I like to start off a new week!!
TUESDAY: Not much happened today. Jake cut the grass and Gus was in bed for 8:30pm!
WEDNESDAY: Happy Birthday Mom! We went over to Nanny's house to celebrate Mom's birthday! We had a really good time and Gus enjoyed the cats, dog, dollhouse, radio and vacuum cleaner!! Nanny made two yummy cakes and sent us home with half of each one so it has been a challenge to keep Gus away from them!!
THURSDAY: Gus' little gal pal from across the street came over to play with him and they had a picnic lunch together! Oh yeah, our mailbox got hit yet again...3 times now. It was hanging on by one screw, we were able to put it back on the post, but Jake will have to add more screws to keep it on for future knocks!
FRIDAY: Well the day has just started. Gus slept until 8:45am so we should have a good day!!
Happy weekend!!! At least this post was not near as exhausting as the previous one!

A little change
Please excuse me while I am in the process of changing up the blog a bit. I am still working on how to change the heading to be centered and maybe boxed (just not on top of my picture)! Any suggestions or tips on how to accomplish this are certainly welcomed!

Earth Day 2010
Today is Earth Day! What did you do to help our Earth? We turned off the A/C, opened all the windows and did not turn on any lights until it was almost dark out. This is something that we pretty much already do on a daily basis because our house has awesome natural light at all times of the day! We really enjoy having all the windows open hearing the birds chirping and the wind rustling through the bushes. The sounds of Spring bring a smile to my face and peace in the air! We did go on a walk and planted some more wildflowers. Not to mention I did not wash one single batch of laundry today. I think overall we had a really good Earth Day and we treated Mother Nature pretty darn good on her day! As I sit here watching re-runs of The Tonight Show with Conan O'Brien unbeknownst to me his guest tonight is Gwyneth Paltrow!! I really like her and am glad I caught this episode as I have learned she has her own website "Goop". I LOVE IT and it is my new favorite website! She shares travel tips, recipes, shopping venues, exercises, etc. Just a very simple site with lots of valuable information. Check it out if you have a few minutes. I have signed up for her newsletter and can't wait to get my first one!

Cha-Ching!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
January 24, 2010 - 31-28 the Saints beat the Vikings to become NFC Champions!!!!!!
Super Saints!!!!
This is a day that every Louisianian has longed for...the New Orleans Saints are going to the Superbowl!!!!!!!!!! We watched the game at Mom and Dad's and we had Gus saying 'touuuu dowwwn'!! He fell asleep during the last 2 minutes of the game, slept through the overtime and all of our celebratory yelling!!!! What a game, what a game!! I had a lump in my throat throughout the entire game and by the end of the game the lump was still there and my eyes were welled with tears!!! This is so exciting and we wish we could have been in the south to celebrate with family and friends, but we called as soon as the game was over and people were ecstatic!! NOLA needed this. It was time for something good to happen in the city and to unite everyone once again and the Saints have done just that! Thank you Drew Brees for acting on your calling to come to NOLA and thank you Hartley for kicking the winning field goal!!! These next 2 weeks waiting for the Superbowl are going to seem like the longest 2 weeks of my life, well except for the last 2 weeks of my pregnancy and the 2 weeks leading up to our wedding!!!!! Who Dat!!

Freebird
Jake and I just watched the last "Tonight Show with Conan O'Brien". I had a lump in my throat throughout the entire show and even shed a few tears, especially when he got choked up. I can't believe the show is over but he did go out with a bang....Will Ferrell with a cow bell singing a very fitting song for the moment...."Freebird" and Conan on a guitar! Whatever Conan's next venture is we will be faithful followers/viewers. Not much to say except that I am very bummed out about this and probably won't, well I won't watch Leno. The skunk had his run. The young crowd wants to see the tall Irish redhead, not the old skunk! Sorry about the rant. TEAM COCO maybe off the air for now, but have no fear he will come back better and stronger! Conan O'Brien for life! Peace!

Snowed in or Shut in??
WINTER: is the coldest season of the year, between autumn and spring. The season includes the time of year with the shortest days and longest nights.
I have a love/hate relationship with winter. I LOVE being inside all snuggled up and warm eating warm soups and sipping hot chocolate. I LOVE the snow and fires burning in a fireplace. I LOVE being in a cabin when it is cold out. I HATE having to get out in the cold and more so having to get Gus out in the cold. So far this year we have had snow 5 days. Nothing heavy, but enough for the schools to close two days in a row. So I digressed with the definition and winter and my few complaints....here is what I really wanted to say!
What a lazy, cozy weekend we had! We spent quality time as a family in the house all weekend long. We had nothing to do, no where to be and it felt good. We had snow Thursday afternoon and all day Friday and Saturday. It was so peaceful watching the snow fall. I found Jake, Gus and I sitting in front the window watching the snow come down several times during the last few days. We had enough snow to cover the ground and stick, but the sun came out today and melted the majority of it.
Technically we were not snowed in. We opted to be shut ins for the weekend!! We watched movies and LOTS of football (all 4 wildcard games), ate too much junk food, had a few drinks and stayed in our pajama's all day both days. The most productive thing we did all weekend was take our Christmas tree out of the house and rearrange a little in the living room! Oh and vacuum the needles from the tree!
While we were 'shut ins' Jake cooked two delicious dinners and some great pancakes for breakfast! (I love Saturday mornings.....I know I am not responsible for breakfast and I look forward to his yummy pancakes)!! Friday night Jake made quesadillas and they ROCKED! Today he put a roast in the crock pot and it came out really good! Thanks for the meals, Jake! I love when I have a few days off from cooking. By the end of the week I tend to get burnt out. I feel refreshed and am looking forward to the start of a new week!

Resolutions continued...
I knew this would happen. I would publish my resolutions then I would remember more as the days went on. Here are some additional resolutions:
4. Finish Gusley's 1st year scrapbook
5. Watch more movies and read at least 4 books this year (trash mags and such do not count).
6. Actually GO CAMPING!
7. Ride some rollercoasters : )
8. Simplify and declutter my surroundings.....I know this is a work in progress, but if I write it out I will see it which in turn will hopefully make me do it!
9. Have weekend away just Jake and I every 3 months give or take a few weeks so that we can catch up on sleep! No one said parenthood was easy!

CHEERS!!!
Thanks, Endi for teaching Gusley 'CHEERS'!! At every meal he now raises his sippy cup for 'CHEERS' at least 15 times! It is the cutest thing! I couldn't be prouder that his best friend taught him such a happy and fun gesture!! I will try to get some pictures, because he, just like Endi, is so proud when our glass and his sippy touch!!! Cute stuff around here at mealtime!!

A Day to Remember
07.07.09 - Michael Joseph Jackson is laid to rest. It was a surreal and emotional day for me. I promised Gus we would watch Sesame Street at 9am then it was CNN for the duration of the day! I did not break my promise and Gus was a very good sport about the memorial. We ate lunch and he watched as I sobbed. After eating he was playing (me still sobbing) and he would come over to me and put his hand on my leg and look up at me like Mommy, are you ok? I would hug him and tell him Mommy is ok, but one day he will understand why me and the rest of the world are so upset over this loss. A friend and I had discussed the memorial before it started and kept tabs with each other throughout. Such text included, "here come the waterworks", "I am sobbing", "this is so sad", "holy shit", "Al Sharpton rox", "OMG", "do you think he's really in there " "I sure hope he is in the box" and "WOW" when sweet, adorable Paris Katherine spoke. I just can't believe he is gone. He was such a part of our lives, his music will live on forever with us.
The ironic thing about today is that I have been meaning to flip our calendar, but it is a little high and I can't quite reach it, so when Jake got home I saw the calendar and stood up on the chair to flip it. We were in a conversation and both stopped mid sentence and looked up at the calendar, looked at each other and just stood there speechless. This is what we saw............................

15 months
I am 5 days late blogging about Gusley's talents, traits, milestones, etc. at 15 months. We have been some busy entertaining bees lately!! Cory was up for a visit and he and Jake headed north to Chicago for 3 days and while they were gone Aunt Beth came back for another visit!!! We thoroughly enjoyed both visits and sure hope you guys come back real soon!!
I will start out by saying thank you to Jake for being such an amazing husband and father. Jake, I know I can be a bit overwhelming at times, but I know that you know and understand that I am just trying to be the best mother that I can be. Thank you for exhibiting such patience and understanding when it comes to me and my decision making or lack there of, of making a decision. (As you may see it at times.) Gusley, thank you for being such an easy going good natured child. I am new at the role of a mother, but I am trying very hard to be the best and give you my utmost as a mother. I love you so very much and am truly amazed at how much you have learned and how you are developing into your own little self! I can't even imagine what the future will bring for you, but I know it will be something big, really BIG!! You are an awesome son and a beautiful person.
These days you are really saying "da da" "ma ma" "bu-k"(for Buttercup) and when Mommy tells you that we need to bring Buttercup out to go te-te you go to the laundry room and get her leash and bring it to mommy. While I am putting her harness on you are grabbing the handle of the leash and holding it ready to walk her! You are a very head strong individual and know what you want and often do not settle for anything but! This is a great quality to have, but can be a little difficult for Mommy and Daddy at times, but we work through it and it always seems to work out. You know when we tell you we are going bye-bye to get your shoes and when we get to the garage door Mommy tells you to "push the button" and you take your little pointer finger and push the open button for the garage door and smile from ear to ear at your accomplishment. Same goes for when we are coming home you close the door for us. What a helper baby you are!
At the moment your favorite movie is Stuart Little. Daddy surprised you last week and bought you Stuart Little 2, but you haven't really taken to it like you did the first one...I'm sure with time you will begin to like it.
You do so well taking objects out and putting them back where they go. You love to count items, especially dog food and tupperware and your train with removable blocks that Endi gave you for your birthday. You love to help out around the house and are a really good listener. Lately you have been helping mommy get you dressed. I will tell you to give me your arm and you put it through the sleeve as well as your legs. You have your moments during diaper duty so I am thinking that it won't be long until we begin potty training. You much prefer to be commando than in a diaper, can't say that I blame you!!
Bath time is still your favorite time, actually anytime of the day that we are playing with/in water is your favorite time! In order for me to get you to take your medicine (Motrin/Tylenol) I have to run the water in the kitchen sink and you look at the stained glass we have on the back door and you take your medicine like a champ! As soon as you hear water running you are throwing your leg over the tub, which has caused you to fall in fully clothed only once!! You love to water our wildflowers and play in the hose....we can't wait for the weather to really warm up so that we can leave the swimming pool up for lots of afternoon play!
You have been drinking out of a straw for quite sometime now and you really enjoy it. We think it is pretty darn cute! You also have just about mastered the art of drinking out of a cup. You are a very good eater, better than Mommy at times! You love your "nana", yogurt, sweet potatoes, pancakes, corn, carrots, macaroni, peas, chicken, tofu and the list goes on...pretty much whatever we are eating you eat and we haven't come across anything that you absolutely do not like.
You are still taking 2 naps a day, well except today you decided to trade 2 for 1 really long nap (3 1/2 hours). I do not think I mentioned this yet in the blog but a week before Easter you decided that you no longer wanted your pacifier and gave it up. Mommy and Daddy would offer it to you, and you would throw it on the floor or push it away so we decided to get rid of it while we could. Now for nap time you say "ne-ne-ne" and Mommy nurses you. You are still breastfeeding about 3-4 times a day, some days are more, some are less, just depends upon our agenda. You are at 7 teeth and holding. I feel around in your little mouth everyday hoping, just hoping that another tooth may have popped through during the night and there is nothing there. You really enjoy brushing your teeth, some nights are better than others!
You LOVE animals, especially cats. We went to Happy Tails (a pet adoption center) Saturday and each cat that you came across you put your sweet little head on him/her and closed your eyes like you were in pure bliss with the kitty cats! You recognize that cats say "meow" and dogs say "woof" but haven't really mimicked us with that yet.
You love to "talk" on the phone although it is like the phone tickles you when we put it to your ear. You just begin to crack up laughing and smile ear to ear. This is very cute, especially when you are talking to Daddy! I have a pretend phone in the office by the computer so that if I have to take a work call you can take a "call" as well. This has been working for us lately!
Everyday is a new adventure with you and everyday I look forward to where that new adventure will take us! You and Daddy are the most important people in my entire life and I love you two with all my heart. Love, Mommy
As I was typing this post, I became flooded with memories of when I first became pregnant and how nervous I was about becoming a mother, raising a child, having to DELIVER said child, etc. so I thought I would share of few of my favorite photos from this special time......
We did not want to find out what we were having so this is what we showed everyone...the baby's feet!! This is from the last ultrasound I had, 20 weeks.
Here we are, nervous as hell, could not sleep, trying to pass the time and enjoy Valentine's Day!! I had been in labor since 5pm on 02.13.08 and this was taken oh, somewhere around 3-3:30am 02.14.09 (16 hours before we became parents)!!
This was taken around midnight on 02.14.09. I just could not stop looking at Gusley, I was in shock that I had a child. I was literally in awww for quite some time, a very good awww, I must say! I called him my little peanut from day one! I always heard about the bond a mother has with her son, but to actually experience it is phenomenal!! I love every minute of being a mother.
And now here is our little 6lb, 14ounce peanut........25lbs and still a bundle of joy!!
I will start out by saying thank you to Jake for being such an amazing husband and father. Jake, I know I can be a bit overwhelming at times, but I know that you know and understand that I am just trying to be the best mother that I can be. Thank you for exhibiting such patience and understanding when it comes to me and my decision making or lack there of, of making a decision. (As you may see it at times.) Gusley, thank you for being such an easy going good natured child. I am new at the role of a mother, but I am trying very hard to be the best and give you my utmost as a mother. I love you so very much and am truly amazed at how much you have learned and how you are developing into your own little self! I can't even imagine what the future will bring for you, but I know it will be something big, really BIG!! You are an awesome son and a beautiful person.
These days you are really saying "da da" "ma ma" "bu-k"(for Buttercup) and when Mommy tells you that we need to bring Buttercup out to go te-te you go to the laundry room and get her leash and bring it to mommy. While I am putting her harness on you are grabbing the handle of the leash and holding it ready to walk her! You are a very head strong individual and know what you want and often do not settle for anything but! This is a great quality to have, but can be a little difficult for Mommy and Daddy at times, but we work through it and it always seems to work out. You know when we tell you we are going bye-bye to get your shoes and when we get to the garage door Mommy tells you to "push the button" and you take your little pointer finger and push the open button for the garage door and smile from ear to ear at your accomplishment. Same goes for when we are coming home you close the door for us. What a helper baby you are!

All About ME!
So after catching up and reading my pal's blog, I enjoyed reading her 20 things and it inspired me to write down a few of my own "things" if you will. I have all these "things" in my head, but nothing written down. I am thinking that if I write them down maybe, just maybe they will become more concrete!! So here I go... I will title this post at the end since I do not know how many "things" I will come up with!
3. I have made a promise to myself that I will run/walk a half marathon and a marathon before I turn 30. Three and a half years to train, I can do it!
4. I forgot how much I LOVE fried food, but I am ok with having it every now and then.
5. I am not looking forward to the day I have to stop nursing Gusley, or the day he goes to school, or....ohh you get the picture, sniff, sniff. I love my sweet baby boy oh so much!!
6. Each day I find something new to love about Jake that I did not know the day before and I LOVE IT!!
7. I inherited some classical music cd's from my grandfather and Gus and I have been enjoying them.
8. I love to decorate with Christmas lights. Some may think it is tacky, but I think it creates great ambient lighting.
9. I am thankful to have a job that allows me to be a stay at home mother.
10. I am proud to say that I voted for Barack Obama and I am looking forward to what he has to offer to this country.
11. I have found a new respect for "nerd rock" thanks to They Might Be Giants and Jake! "Everyone wants a prosthetic foreheads on their real foreheads" are my favorite lyrics to one of their songs. It makes me laugh and brings a smile to my face when I think about it....so very true in the world today.
12. My grandmother is an amazing little lady and I love her very much!
13. My parents did a great job instilling morals and values in me, thanks mom and dad!
14. I love being a mother.
15. My life is exactly where and what I want it to be!
16. I love hiking and the great outdoors and can't wait to take advantage of that here in TN!
17. I LOVE ROLLERCOASTERS!!!!!!!!!
18. Jake and I drove out to Los Angeles for The Price Is Right...it was amazing and I saw Bob Barker :-)!
19. I eventually want to get my Masters in Education and become a teacher. That is a lifelong dream of mine....it will happen in due time.
20. I need a new computer.
There you have it my "things", unfortunately I have about 48972011 more, but I must stop at some point, however, this will be continued at a later date!!!!
