Little Speed Racer

Saturday a high school friend of ours was in Bowling Green, KY competing in a drag race. Jake and have never been to a drag race so we gave it a go! It was awesome! We all had the best time. Gus thoroughly enjoyed seeing all the cars race and rev their engines as the drove past us in the pit. He really enjoyed riding on the golf/go cart! What is not to like about any of that?! We got to KY at lunch time and happened upon an old drive in diner. It was delicious and Gus got a free ice cream (shake as he called it)! We then headed to the campground to set up our home for the night. After getting the tent in place it was off to the playground and a quick dip in the pool then we were off to the races! Gus fell asleep on our was there but was a trooper once he woke up. Lance met us at the gate in the go cart and took us to his trailer in the pit. There were cars everywhere you looked. Gus eventually warmed up enough to get in the dragster! We watched a few races before getting some yummy race food, but Gus was not interested in the head phones.....so of course we got some dirty looks from other spectators...whatever! He would let me cover his ears and he did eventually wear the ear phones. Below are a few pictures from the race. I will post more very soon!

On our way to KY! Mr. Cool!

Oh Happy Week!

I swear I feel like we have been on a roller-coaster between last week and this week.

FRIDAY: Jake called me from work around 3:00pm and said, "pack your bag we are going to our 10 year reunion, see if you parents will watch Gus." In a frenzy I start trying on dresses and throwing cloths and shoes in a bag for me, Gus and Jake. When he gets home we are packed and ready to blast off! We dropped Gus and Buttercup off at my parents and away we went. Both second guessing such a long and quick trip, but we looked at each other and said, "You only live once and you only have one 10 year reunion." Away we went. We left around 7pm after a quick stop at Target, gas and food. We did not tell anyone we were going to make it to the reunion, but we kept taps on what a few of our friends were doing via FB. The all went out on Friday night and we were still driving when they were getting in....very funny drunk posts from a few! We got in around 4am, fell asleep at 5am and were up for 8am.....3 hours of sleep!!

SATURDAY: My father in law cooked a yummy breakfast and we visited with Sarah and Buster and the kids for a while then we headed to town because of all the shoes I brought none of them where quite right. We headed to Danny and Bridgette's because they had a huge bag of hand me downs for Gus!! Thank you, thank you, thank you!!! Then we went to Marshall's. I bought a pair, but I was not sold on them. Off to Ross we go. I knew Ross would not disappoint and I was right! Found exactly what I was looking for! By this time we are both wearing thin and starving. We get Cane's and head to the rents house for a nap before the reunion. Friday was a near and dear friend of mine, Allison's birthday. I was going to wait and surprise her at the reunion, but something was telling me to call her before. I did! We played phone tag, but when we finally spoke we were just screaming and giddy that we were going to see each other! We made plans to meet at her house and ride with she and Robbie. We napped, showered and got dressed and away we went!

THE REUNION: When we got to the reunion it was a total shock for most that we were there because during the week I had told a few people that I did not think we were going to make it, so they were happy to see us! It was so nice to see old familiar faces and catch up with old friends! Everyone seemed to have had a blast. I know we did! Not long after we got there they started doing door prizes and people were telling me that my name was called (I had no idea they were giving the prizes away) and I was like, "for what?" Then I see someone holding up an ice chest...I won an ice chest! After the reunion no one wanted to part ways so most of the crowd went to Dooley's, a little dive bar that has a fabulous jukebox!! At 2am when the bar closed everyone still wasn't ready to leave so we all went to a classmate's parents house and swam until 4am!! What a blast, but we realized that we were certainly not 18 again and can't quite hang like we used too!! Thank you, thank you, thank you to our awesome sister and brother in law for coming get us at 4:30-5am and stopping at Mr. Ronnie's! Sarah and Buster, y'all are wonderful! Thank you so much!! By the time we went to bed it was 6am.

SUNDAY: Up and at it for 11am. My father in law was on his way back home with fried chicken! We showered, ate, visited and were back on the road headed home for 2pm, but had to make one more surprise visit with Maw! She was so happy to see Jake and I, but I know she was a little disappointed that Gus was not with us. Speaking of Gus, Saturday morning when I talked to mom he had woken up and thrown up a few times. She seems to think he had a little bug because after that he was fine...not 100% up to par, but still managing to laugh and play! By the time we left Maw's it was 3pm. We stopped to fuel up on gas and groceries and we hit the dusty trail. We were making great timing and north of Hattisburg, MS we caught some horrific weather and had to get off the interstate and wait it out for about 40 mins. I don't think we put the radio on until we were about 2 hours from home because we were just laughing and reminiscing about the night before! We drove up to the house at 12:15am, unloaded and I went to mom's and got in the bed with Gus. He came and snuggled right up to me. Oh I love that child so much!

RECAP OF THE WEEKEND IN HOURS: 18 hours = total driving time; 9.5 = total hours of sleep we got; 32-34 = total hours we were in Houma; the memories are PRICELESS and so worth every second of the trip!

MONDAY: Can we say dragging a$$ really bad?! However, I enter a picture of Gus into a contest and never heard anything back (there were not that many entries and his was one of the cutest). I had told Jake on the weekend that it was odd that I had not heard anything. Today I got a call to say that our picture won 3rd place and we would be receiving a $100 gift card from Visa!!!! Now that is how I like to start off a new week!!

TUESDAY: Not much happened today. Jake cut the grass and Gus was in bed for 8:30pm!

WEDNESDAY: Happy Birthday Mom! We went over to Nanny's house to celebrate Mom's birthday! We had a really good time and Gus enjoyed the cats, dog, dollhouse, radio and vacuum cleaner!! Nanny made two yummy cakes and sent us home with half of each one so it has been a challenge to keep Gus away from them!!

THURSDAY: Gus' little gal pal from across the street came over to play with him and they had a picnic lunch together! Oh yeah, our mailbox got hit yet again...3 times now. It was hanging on by one screw, we were able to put it back on the post, but Jake will have to add more screws to keep it on for future knocks!

FRIDAY: Well the day has just started. Gus slept until 8:45am so we should have a good day!!

Happy weekend!!! At least this post was not near as exhausting as the previous one!

Gus' first NFL game

Today the Titans had their first home pre-season game. They played the Arizona Cardinals. My boss has season tickets and Jake asked if they were being used and they weren't so he took Gus to his first NFL game. I met Jake in the city and we swapped. I packed Gus a little lunchbox with some snacks and a drink and a couple diapers and wipes. He insisted on carrying his lunchbox, which was adorable. He put it down at Jake's office, but then as soon as Jake told him they were leaving he immediately grabbed it and pushed it more than halfway up his arm and gave a big "Nah"!!

They headed to the field and I headed to
Trader Joe's and a few other places. I thought that Jake and Gus would beat me home, but it was the other way around! Jake called at 10:30pm and they were on their way home and he said Gus had a blast! They left in the forth quarter the Titans were up 24-3. He said when they walking back to the car they got to see a fireworks show and Gus enjoyed that as well. Gus had his first taste of cotton candy at the game and had a little girl a few seats down to play with (no one was between she and her dad and Jake and Gus). Overall I think they had a really great time. Jake said Gus was very good and it captured his attention for most of the game. They just got home and Gus is out like a light. He barely flinched while I changed his diaper and cloths! Can't wait for his little football uniform...he is drying to put on a helmet like his big cousin William!! Thanks, Penny for the tickets! I know that they were put to good use!!

The following are pictures courtesy of Jake being a single parent for the night! I asked if he would be taking the camera and his reply was "ABSOLUTELY!" I love that man! Thanks for the pictures, Jake!

On their way to the stadium!

Getting settled in their seats!!

Holding on tight to his coupon book that was in his cup holder!

What a view!

Dad, I can't believe you and Mommy have been holding out on the cotton candy!
This stuff is GOOD!!

Go TITANS!!

Notice the lunchbox on his arm!! Watching the fireworks after the game!

Please note, that just because Gus' first NFL game was a Titans game does not mean we are jumping ship on the Saints! Who Dat, baby!!

10 year Reunion

We did not think that we were going to be able to make our 10 year reunion and had replied "NO". At the last minute, 3pm Friday to be exact, Jake called me and told me to pack my bags that we were going to LA for our reunion. I had nothing to wear, or so I thought so off to the closet I ran and began trying on dresses. The first one was THE ONE, but I still went through 17 more! Anyway, I packed our bags, made arrangements for Gus and we hit the dusty trail at 7pm.

We arrived in LA at 4am, fell asleep at 5am, were woken up at 8am by the yummy smells of Paw's breakfast, were dressed and out the door to grab lunch and shoes for me by 11:30am, got back in time to take an hour nap the bath and be at Allison's for 6ish. I was going to surprise her and see her at the reunion, but it got the best of me and I called her!!! She was stoked so we met up with she and Robbie and rode together! We attended the reunion from start to finish then went out with everyone until 2am and then like old times had a house party after the bar closed! Sarah and Buster were kind enough to come get us at 5am and even brought us to Mr. Ronnie's for donuts! We fell asleep at 6am and were up by 10 or 11am and had a 9 hour drive back home, plus a stop at Maw's!

Needless to say we drove 18+ hours, slept >9 hours TOTAL, drank TOO much, and partied till the break of dawn and had a wonderful time so it was worth it! I only have 4-5 pictures from the entire weekend so I think it is safe to say we passed a good time!!

Casey and I with our raffle winnings!!

What a week

This past week is worth remembering so here is a breakdown of what went down.

MONDAY: Gus and I started off having a great day. We had lunch while watching Olivia the pig. After lunch he was leaning on me and the arm of the chair (where the dog was sleeping) and his arm skimmed the dog and startled her and in turn she bit him on the cheek. Poor baby was chewing his last piece of pizza and when he took a deep breath before beginning to cry he inhaled the pizza and began to choke. I was in tears shaking trying to help him but he was just gasping for air between cries and finally threw up. Needless to say I am disgusted with the dog and my heart is hurting for my little baby bear, Gusley.

TUESDAY: Jake calls me asking if I made any purchases through iTunes. No, not that I recall and I don't think Gus knows or can type my password. He is good, but not that good is my reply. I check my email and I have 7 email confirmations from iTunes for all these "yin din dang dong" type of downloads. Mainly books and the best is the "King James New Testament Bible". Seriously, you are going to hack my account and download the bible? WTH?? Anyway, my iTunes was hacked and we incurred a rediculous amount in iTunes charges and fees. We cancel all cards, accts., etc. We attempt to get sleep, but are too pissed.

WEDNESDAY: More iTunes charges post to our account. Jake is pissed and writes our contact with iTunes whose name just so happens to be Ching a really nice email. Hahaha very opposite of nice. By the way, we never SPOKE to an iTunes rep. They only communicate via email.....all phones numbers we tried would fake us out. Act like we were being transferred and then bam we were disconnected. Bullshit I tell you, bullshit. Jake went to bed at 11pm. I went to bed at midnight. When I got in bed he asked what was the time, I told him and he jumped out of bed to check our acct. MORE CHARGES. Not pretty at our house at midnight to say the least. Of course all customer service lines are closed and Jake has an 8am job. We make it to bed for 1am and are up for 5:30am.

THURSDAY: Gus and I head to the bank where we opened the account to sign an affidavit saying we were hacked. We had to wait for all charges to clear even though the account was closed more charges were coming in. Confused yet? We were!! Anyway it couldn't be the bank 5 minutes from the house....the one 20 minutes away. We get there 15 minutes before they open so we hang out in the car and listen to some music. We sign the papers and I get a few answers from the bank. They tell me it could take 10 days for us to get ALL our money back. Nice, real nice considering we had to find change to buy milk Tuesday night because din dang dong was reading his bible.

FRIDAY: No new charges! Can we see the light? Yes!! Thanks to our awesome friend Tyler who works at another branch and made sure that we got all our money back TODAY! Thank you, Tyler! You rock!

Gus' cheek looks much better, but he did not want to take his nap, but eventually he did. Very head strong little dude to say the least, but I love the fact that he knows what he wants an doesn't settle for anything less!

So there is our week. Makes me exhausted to type it out, but I know it could be worse. My friends, beware of yin ding dong and iTunes!!!

Gus' wound seems to be getting better. It is an act of congress to get the ointment on, but eventually we get it.

30 months = 2.5 Years old!!

Where do I even start? Two and a half! WOW!! This is a very fun age to say the least! Gus is a little chatterbox these days. He is now making sentences and we can understand a good bit of what he tells us! I can understand most because I am home with him everyday so I am catching on to his lingo! It seems like yesterday he was a wee little munchkin. Here are his achievements thus far, likes, dislikes and so on!

He is a walking, running, jumping, climbing, chattering, snack lovin', nose pickin', dirt diggin', swinging, sliding, giddy, giggly, music lovin' little boy who loves a good book and lots of kisses and hugs! He is a typical little boy made of snakes and snails and puppy dog tails, but I would not have it any other way!

He knows every letter of the alphabet (upper and lower case). He knows his numbers 1-10 and will often recite them while playing with his toys. He has better rhythm and knack for music than his momma will ever have! I am so glad he was blessed with that trait! He loves to dance (sway his hips in a funky little motion).

Books of the moment: Skuffy the Tugoat, Pigeon has Feelings Too!, Richard Scary - Cars and Trucks and things that Go, Little People at the Barn Yard, Sergio the Penguin, Timothy Tiger's Terrible Toothache (at Nice and Pop's house), Cat in the Hat, Bears Vacation and One Fish, Two Fish! There are plenty more!

Shows of interest: Cat in the Hat Knows a Thing About That, Thomas the Train, Yo Gabba Gabba, Toot & Puddle, Olivia, Super Why, Franklin, The Wiggles, Play with Me Sesame & Moose and Zee (though they are not a show, he loves their little shows between shows!)

Toys he can't live without: PLAY-DOH, colors, markers, stickers, glue, glitter, chalk, trains and trucks and sometimes Roo (his little kangaroo)! He is very much into the arts these days, which I so love to do with him. He has re-discovered his rocking giraffe and kitchen and has been having a grand ole time with his wooden blocks.

Books and Puzzles are not really a toy so they get their own little blurb: He LOVES them both. I got out my 10-25 piece puzzles from when I was younger and he will build them over and over again....all with out any help from us! It is amazing to watch him work these puzzles. Some of them are a little difficult, but he doesn't give up and when it is complete he is so proud to show us his work!

He is talking more and more each day. Currently Gus is obsessed with gas tanks on cars or as he calls it "ass anks"! Combining lots of word to make sentences and is telling us what he wants and if we do not understand him he promptly tells us NO!

I find the following very funny:

Nice House, Pop House, Mom House, Dad House....that could be a Dr. Suess book!
Ass car go....Gas in the car so it can go!
Tat Hat....Cat in the Hat!

He spells any and everything he sees. The other day we were at a red light and he started spelling P-U-B-L-I-X. It took me a few seconds to realize what he was spelling because the sign was a good 50-75 yards away. He can spell Nice, Pop, Mom, Dad, Stop, Gus, Gas, Cat all by himself!

Pottytraining, oh pottytraining.....let's just say it is just that, POTTYTRAINING!! It is a work in progress, but hopefully we are getting closer to being diaper free! Suggestions and tips are welcomed!

I am sure I am forgetting a few milestones, but pictures post are sure to come!!
